Alphabet Games (alphabetgames.org) offers free online learning games for children, along with guides for parents and teachers. Keeping children safe online matters to us more than anything else. This policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

- You can play every game without telling us your name.
- Never type your name, address, school, phone number or photos on any website without asking a grown-up first.
- We do not sell information about you to anyone.
- If something on the site feels strange or worries you, tell a parent or teacher.

Who we are
This website is run by the Alphabet Games team, based in Finland. We are the data controller responsible for your information. You can reach us at [email protected].
Children’s privacy (COPPA)
Our website is designed for children, so we follow the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), including the updated COPPA Rule, as well as EU and UK rules that protect children’s data.
- No accounts needed. Children can play all games without signing up, logging in or giving us any personal information.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under the age set by law in your country). This includes names, email addresses, home addresses, phone numbers, photos, voice recordings or precise location.
- No chat or public posting for children. Our games do not include chat features, and comments are turned off on our website.
- No behavioral advertising to children. We do not use children’s information to build profiles or show targeted ads.
- If we learn we collected a child’s information by mistake, we will delete it promptly.
Parents: if you believe your child has sent us personal information, contact us at [email protected]. You can ask us to review the information, delete it, and stop any further collection. We will verify that you are the parent or guardian before acting on the request.
Information we collect
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our server and tools automatically receive limited technical information when someone visits, such as:
- Device and browser type, operating system and screen size
- Pages and games visited, time spent and the website that linked to us
- A shortened or anonymized IP address, used for security and approximate country-level statistics
We use this information only in a way that does not identify any individual child, and only to run, secure and improve the website.
Information adults choose to give us
Parents, teachers and other adults may choose to contact us by email. In that case we receive your name, email address and whatever you write in your message. We use it only to reply to you.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect precise location, contacts, photos, voice recordings, payment details or government ID numbers.
How we use information
- To run the website and make games load and work properly on PC, iPad and phones
- To understand which games and articles are popular, so we can make better ones
- To keep the site safe and prevent spam, fraud and abuse
- To answer messages from parents, teachers and other adults
- To meet our legal obligations
Under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we rely on our legitimate interests in running a safe and working website, on consent for optional cookies, and on legal obligation where the law requires us to keep or share information.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files that a website saves in your browser. We use:
- Essential cookies that the site needs to work, such as remembering game settings or keeping the site secure. These do not need consent.
- Analytics cookies that help us count visits in a privacy-friendly way, with IP addresses anonymized. Where the law requires it, we only use these after you agree in our cookie banner.
We do not use cookies to track children across other websites. You can change your cookie choices at any time using the cookie settings link on our website, or by clearing cookies in your browser settings.
Advertising
To keep our games free, some pages may show ads from our advertising partners. Because our site is directed to children, we treat all traffic as child-directed. This means:
- Only contextual, non-personalized ads are shown, based on the page content and not on who is visiting.
- No interest-based or behavioral advertising, and no remarketing.
- Ads are clearly separated from games and educational content.
Games from other providers
Some games on our site are created and hosted by other game developers or distributors and are shown inside our pages. These providers may receive basic technical information, such as your browser type and an anonymized IP address, in order to deliver the game. We choose providers that support child-directed settings, and we ask them not to collect personal information from children or use it for targeted advertising. Their own privacy policies also apply, and you can contact us at any time to ask which providers we work with.
When we share information
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We share limited information only with:
- Service providers who help us run the site, such as our web hosting, analytics and email providers. They may use the information only to provide their service to us.
- Authorities, when the law requires it or when needed to protect the safety of a child or others.
- A new owner, if the website is ever sold or transferred. This policy would continue to protect any information we hold.
Some of our providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. When that happens, we rely on legal safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep information
- Server and security logs: up to 30 days
- Analytics data: up to 14 months, then deleted or fully anonymized
- Emails and messages from adults: up to 12 months after our conversation ends
- Any information accidentally received from a child: deleted as soon as we notice it
We keep information only as long as it is needed for the reasons described in this policy and delete it securely afterwards.
How we protect information
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), up-to-date software, strong passwords, limited access for the people who run the site, and regular reviews of the services we use. No website can be 100% secure, but we work hard to keep the information we hold as small and as safe as possible.
Your rights (including GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or another place with similar laws, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you or your child, and get a copy
- Ask us to correct or delete it
- Object to or limit how we use it
- Withdraw your consent at any time, for example by changing your cookie choices
- Receive your information in a portable format
To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will reply within one month. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority. In Finland, that is the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi). You can also contact the authority in your own country.
U.S. state privacy rights
Residents of California and other U.S. states with privacy laws may have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If we ever make important changes to how we handle children’s information, we will make that clear on the website and, where the law requires it, ask for parental consent first.
